The genomic revolution, begun
with the first draft version of the human genome sequence in 2001, is now
entering into concrete application. Expected outcomes are in the biomedicine
and agriculture fields, with the development of new diagnostic and prognostic
biomarkers, new drugs and genetically improved plants and animals.
All these approaches exploit sequence information residing in the protein-coding
part of the genome, which in our species is only the 2% of the whole DNA.
But also the large non-coding part of the genomic DNA can be exploited in
a number of ways to produce precious informations.
GENTRAS is a Europe-based biotech
company whose primary mission is to develop and apply technologies for the
exploitation of genomic DNA as the marker of identity and individuality. The
applications developed at GENTRAS
are in the human identification field (forensic, family relationship and security
applications) and in the broad agricultural biotechnology and veterinary fields
(food safety, food traceability, selective trait breeding, animal sexing,
animal pedigree verification).
GENTRAS scientists and technicians
make use of cutting-edge technologies and tools for the translation of the
information present in the whole genomic DNA in useful applications. With
its precise focus and its strong innovation-oriented model, GENTRAS
aims at becoming a European leader company in DNA tracing technologies.
